FAMILY VISA

As part of their immigration programs, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has a specific visa track known as the Family Visa. Canadian citizens or permanent residents of at least 18 years of age are entitled to sponsor the following family members:

● Spouse, Common-law partner, Conjugal partner
● Dependent children
● Parents
● Brothers and sisters
● Grandparents
● Grandchildren
● Other relatives (i.e., an orphaned niece or nephew)

Canadian citizens and permanent residents in Canada are also offered a range of categories to sponsor family members through the Family Visa Program. Each category has its own set of requirements that the sponsor needs to comply with for the family sponsorship visa application to be properly reviewed by CIC.

The sponsor is required to:

● Send a letter of invitation to the family member(s) they want to sponsor.
● Demonstrate their ability to financially support the family members being sponsored during their initial stay period (varies between 3 – 10 years).
● Sign an agreement that confirms that they understand their mutual obligations and responsibilities.
● Sign an undertaking promising to provide for the basic needs of the family members they are sponsoring.

BUSINESS VISA

The Canada Business Immigration Category of visas was designed to attract experienced business people to Canada. Successful candidates are those who can invest in Canada, start businesses in Canada and generate revenues and employment for Canadians.

In 2013, over 9000 business migrants were allowed entry into Canada. In 2015-2016, the government target is to welcome a similar number of Canada business immigrants.

In order to encourage the development of a strong, prosperous economic environment, the Canadian government seeks business people with sufficient business experience and the necessary assets.

Canada business visa categories:

Immigrant Investor Venture Capital Visa

Aimed at those with a personal net worth of at least $10 million CND, and willing to make an at-risk investment of at least $2 million CND into Canada’s Immigrant Investor Venture Capital fund. This category is not always available, and was temporarily closed on December 30th
2015.

Start-up Visa

Aimed at successful business owners or part-owners with significant experience who have the intention and ability to own and manage a business in Canada, which generates revenues and employment. The business must be supported by an organisation on Canada’s Start-up Visa Designated Organisations List

Self-Employed Immigrant Visa

Aimed at persons with relevant experience in
world-class athletics or cultural activities or with farm management experience,
who have the intention and ability to become self-employed in Canada.

PROVINCIAL NOMINEE VISA

This program is for workers who:

● Have the skills, education and work experience to contribute to the economy of a specific province or territory
● Want to live in that province, and
● Want to become permanent residents of Canada

Each province and territory has its own “streams” (immigration programs that target certain groups) and requirements. For example, in a program stream, provinces and territories may target:

● Students
● Business people
● Skilled workers
● Semi-skilled workers

How you will apply depends on which Provincial Nominee Program stream you’re applying to either by using the paper-based process or by the online process through Express Entry.

the online Express Entry process

● You contact the province or territory and apply for a nomination under an Express Entry stream.
● If the province or territory agrees to nominate you, you create an Express Entry profile (or update your profile if you already have one) and show you have been nominated.

Or

● You create an Express Entry profile and show the provinces and territories you’re interested in.
● If a province or territory sends you a “notification of interest” to your account, you contact them directly.
● You apply to their Express Entry stream: If you’re nominated, the province will offer it to you through your account, and you accept it electronically.

the paper-based process:

● You apply to the province or territory for nomination under a non-Express Entry
stream.
● You need to meet the eligibility requirements of the province that nominates you.
● Once you have been nominated, you submit a paper application for permanent
residence to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
● You have to pass a medical exam and get a police check (certificate). Everyone
must have these checks, no matter where you plan to live in Canada.
● Application processing times are longer than through Express Entry.
